Paiyun Gate

Right in the middle of the Long Corridor, the Paiyun Gate is the main gate of the Paiyun Hall. The arch in front of it stands erect toward the sky, stationed by two huge bronze lions and 12 Taishu stones similar to the animals reqresenting the 12 Earthly branches. The lions and stones survived the demolition of Changchun Garden duringthe war of 1860. The dock near the arch was for the exclusive use of Empress Dowager Cixi, where she freed animals back to nature on every 15th day of the lunar April.
