Kunlun Stone

A huge stele at the eastern dike, Kunlun Stone was inscribed with the Poem of Western Dike, handwritten by Emperor Qianlong. Some people may wonder why the emperor took the eastern dike as the western dike. It turned to be that the long dike, namely, the western dike mentioned by the emperor Qianlong, was built outside the western wall of Changchun Garden to protect the garden, which lied to the east of the present eastern dike. While enlarging the Kunming Lake, the rice paddy between Kunming Lake and the original western dike was removed, and a new dike was built on the basis of the original western dike. Hence, the original western dike became the eastern one of Kunming Lake. And that's why the Emperor Qianlong wrote in the poem:the western dike became the eastern one now.
