Route A: Eastern Palace Gate--Hall
of Benevolent Longevity-Dehe Garden- Yulan Hall-Yiyun Hall-Hall of Joyful Longevity-Long
Corridor-Paiyun Gate-Paiyun Hall- Foxiang Pavilion-Si Da Bu Zhou- Suzhou Street-Northern
Palace Gate (or out of the East Palace Gate via a path from the rear hill and
Xiequ Garden).
This route covers the administrative area, living area and scenic area of the
front hill of Wanshou Hill, and the rear hill and back lake. Tourists pressed
for time and favoring architecture schould take this two- hour route.
Route B: Eastern Palace Gate-Hall
of Benevolent Longevity-Dehe Garden-Yulan Hall-Yiyun Hall- Hall of Joyful Longevity-Long
Corridor- Stone Boat- Nanhu Islet (by boat)-17-Arch Bridge-newly-built palace
gate.
This two-hour route is suitable for those fond of lake scenery.
Route C: Eastern Palace Gate-Hall
of Benevolent Longevity-Gate of Zi Qi Dong Lai-Xiequ Garden-Suzhou Street-Si Da
Bu Zhou-Foxiang Pavilion- Long Corridor-Hall of Joyful Longevity- Yinyun Hall-
Yulan Hall-Zhichun Pavilion-Bronze Ox-17-Arch Bridge-newly-built palace gate.
In converse order in comparison to the previous two routes, this two -hour route
caters to tourists preferring scenic areas of the rear hill and back lake.
Route D: Eastern Palace Gate-Hall
of Benevolent Longevity-Dehe Garden- Yulan Hall-Yiyun Hall- Hall of Joyful Longevity-
Long Corridor- Stone Boat- Six Bridges at the Western Dike- Xiuyi Bridge-Southern
Ruyi Gate.
Toursits taking this route need to walk along the entire Western Dike. It is
suitable for those physically healthy, and for frequent visitors to the Summer
Palace.
Facilities:
Admission Ticket:
April 1-October 31: 30 yuan for ordinary tickets and 50 yuan for through tickets.
November 1-March 31: 20 yuan for or dinary tickets and 40 yuan for through
tickets.
Five yuan for Grand Dehe Theatre, 10 yuan for Paiyun Hall and Foxiang Pavilion,
10 yuan for Suzhou Street and 20 yuan for Wenchang Compound.
The through ticket includes entry fees for the Grand Dehe Theatre, Foxing Pavilion
and Suzhou Street. A monthly ticket of 30 Yuan is available for Beijing resident
with an ID card, giving access through the main gate only. Children less than
1.2 meters in height, armyman, armed police and retirees with an ID are given
free entry.
Tour Guide Service:
Paid tour guide services are available outside the Eastern Palace Gate. There
is also a free tour guide service in many scenic areas, provided once every 30
minutes.
Pleasure Boat:
pleasure boats in four categories are available:
Manual boats: suitable for four people, availale at the dock to the east of
the 17-Arch Bridge and south of Bafang Pavilion.A refundable deposit is required.
Paddle Boats: suitable for four people, available at docks to the south of
Zhichun Pavilion and Paiyun Gate. A refundable 200 yuan deposit is required,and
20 yuan per hour is charged for boating.
Electric Boat: suitable for four people, available at the dock to the south
of Zhichun Pavilion. A 200-yuan refundable deposit is required and 30 yuan per
hour is charged.
Medium-sized Dragon Boats and gaily-painted Pleasure Boats: suitable for large
groups of people, available at docks near the Bronze Ox, Nanhu Islet, Yulan Hall,
paiyun Hall and the Stone Boat. A one-way tour costs about five or six yuan.
Large Deluxe Boat: the two-story boat can cater for between 50 and 400 people,
and is ideal for banquets,parties and gatherings.
Shopping&Restaurants:
Large Shopping Centers are located at: Zhichun Pavilion, the Stone Boat, Bafang
Pavilion, Xiequ Garden and Suzhou Street.
Large Restaurants: Tingli Restaurant, Ruyi Restaurant, Zhichun Pavilion Restaurant,
Qinghua Hall Restaurant, Hanxu Hall Restaurant. The Tingli Restaurant is noted
for its court food, catering for many important domestic and foreign guests.
Transportation:
Direct bus 301, 303, 330, 332, 331, 346, 362, 374, 375, 904, or 905 to the Summer
Palace, or take the subway and transfer at Xizhimen Gate.
Toilets:
Toilets in the Summer Palace are free of charge, and are in better hygienic conditions.
There are fewer toilets located on the Western Dike and south of the Bronze Ox
on the Eastern Dike.
