The national flower bed situates to the east of Paiyun Hall. First
built in 1903, the east of Paiyun Hall. First built in 1903, the
national flower bed was crowded with peonies, the national flower
of China. As the Empress Dowag-er often compared herself to peony,
the flower was granted to represent the nation. The peonies greeting
us now were all planted after the founding of P.R.China. Bathing
in the sunshine of every spring, various peonies in full blossom
seem to vie with one another for beauty and fascination.
